I am a builder.  I construct objects, situations, materials, artifacts, and questions.  Using traditional craft processes to manipulate non-traditional materials, I attempt to confound preconceived notions of physical and emotional functionality.  Employing the ideas of armor and ornamentation as a type of specialized vernacular, I frame my exploratory material use within a more specific context; a context of protection, failed protection, alienation, labor, nonverbal communication, and the body.

Working in tandem with the objects, I build are the negative spaces that are reserved within their contours, suggesting the presence of the body despite its absence.  Transformation of raw material is essential to my creative process.  Like generations of women and craftspeople before me, I attempt to make what is perceived to be nothing into something;  turning materials of neutral or even negative value into objects that play with the notion of value itself.

Materials: found cardboard, rust, finishing nails, found wire, found fabric, earring backings, newspaper, sinew, can tabs, and hand forged steel nails, hand forged steel display armature
